A Heritage of Subtle Luxury

Constructed in 1879, The Arcade linked Old Bond Street to Albemarle Street in the heart of Mayfair, London’s most exclusive shopping district. Built in the Victorian era as the city’s first purpose-built shopping arcade, it combined elegance and function in a way that defined the period. Its glass arches, ornate stucco façades, curved display windows and Ionic columns remain almost exactly as they were, allowing visitors to experience the rare continuity of a nineteenth-century London landmark.

Originally known simply as “The Arcade,” it became the Royal Arcade in the early 1880s when Queen Victoria granted her patronage to shirtmaker William Hodgson Brettell, whose workshop occupied Unit 12. That address is now home to Mekhann. The permanence, precision and elegance that have always defined the Royal Arcade are reflected in the way Mekhann presents its work today, creating a setting where heritage and contemporary textile artistry meet in the most distinguished passage of Mayfair.
